About us
A small, independent magazine about handmade and vintage things — and the people who make them.
Gifts Worth Keeping is a small, independent website written from Kraków, Poland. We write about handmade and vintage things: ceramics and textiles, jewelry, wooden toys, prints, the odd record found at a flea market. And we write about the slightly underrated skill of choosing a good gift.
Why this site exists
It started with a familiar problem. You want to give someone something that feels personal, made with care, not grabbed from a bestseller shelf. So you go looking, and two hours later you're forty tabs deep, unsure whether the "handmade" mug is really handmade, whether the necklace will tarnish in a month, or whether the parcel will arrive before the birthday.
We kept doing that research for ourselves, our families and our friends, and at some point it made sense to write it down. That's what this site is: the notes we wish we'd had.
What we believe
- Fewer, better things. We'd rather recommend one well-made object than ten disposable ones.
- Makers matter. Behind most of what we write about is a single person or a small studio. We like to know how things are made, and we try to explain it plainly.
- Useful first. Every article should help you even if you never buy anything: how to tell sterling silver from plated, why stoneware chips less than earthenware, when to order before Christmas.
- No fake enthusiasm. We don't publish invented reviews or star ratings. When we suggest a kind of item, we tell you what to look for and what to avoid, and then you decide.
How we choose what to write about
Most of the small makers we point to sell on marketplaces such as Etsy, where independent shops can reach buyers worldwide. Before we suggest a type of item or a place to look, we read shop policies, compare materials and descriptions, and look at how consistent the reviews are over time. If something feels off, like vague materials, unrealistic shipping promises or recycled stock photos, we leave it out.
How the site is funded
Some of our outbound links are affiliate links. If you buy something after clicking one, we may earn a small commission, at no extra cost to you. That's what pays for the hosting and the time. It never decides what we write; you can read more on our How we earn page.
